Am I being obsessive about my skin care products?

I recently came across an article with a list of ingredients to avoid in cosmetics and after comparing it with my products I literally threw every single product away except one organic soap! I mean, EVERY cream, lotion, cleanser, toner, shampoo, lipstick and makeup piece had one or more of these ingredients in it! I have been going insane reading all the information from several resources and feel so overwhelmed. The majority of ingredients are said to cause CANCER, are TOXIC, and not safe for use on skin for prolonged periods! HELP! Am I going over the top? I am 25 years old and had no idea about all these chemicals found in all major brands. I honestly must have thrown away a thousand dollars worth of product! Is ANYTHING safe? Even “natural” products I looked into are labeled as having negative side effect b/c the FDA doesn’t regulate the sale and manufacture of cosmetics, or their ingedients. For instance Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 is rated a 6 out of 10 on the hazard scale! UHHH!

I recently did the same thing!
I read this book called The Beauty Bible by Paula Begoun and in it she lists the chemicals that should never even come close to skin and she lists what the top 5 ingredients should be. Also, as you pointed out, the FDA does not have to regulate anything the cosemetic companies add to their products! They can do whatever they want.
One company still uses the same lab results that they recieved in the 80s!!
So to answer your question, No. I don’t think your being obsessive. Just precautious.
